Apple Cooker Spoon from Te Awamutu – Jeff Fryett
$50.00
Apple Cooker Spoon from Te Awamutu by Jeff Fryett
Applewood carries a quiet clarity — smooth, fine-grained, and warm under the knife. In Jeff Fryett’s hands, this native-grown timber from Te Awamutu is allowed to speak for itself, shaped slowly and intuitively using only axe, sloyd, and hook knife until a purpose-built cooking spoon emerges with an effortless sense of form.
Each curve is worked by hand until the grain settles into its own rhythm, revealing soft tonal variation and a natural glow unique to apple wood. The surface is then carefully burnished with a river pebble and sealed with a food-safe curing oil, enhancing its gentle lustre while preserving the honest feel of the timber.
Simple, functional, and beautifully resolved — a spoon designed to be used every day and appreciated for a lifetime.
