Welcome to White Sail Gallery — with two locations in New Plymouth, bringing together a thoughtfully curated collection of art, objects and gifts from talented artists and makers across Aotearoa.
Our original gallery is nestled on the scenic shores of Breakwater Bay at Port Taranaki, while our city gallery on Devon Street brings White Sail into the heart of New Plymouth. Each space has its own character, with a shared love of beautiful, unexpected and thoughtfully made things.
Since opening in 2013, White Sail Gallery has been dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of New Zealand-made art. We’re proud to support artists and makers across many mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, glass, homewares, pounamu and distinctive objects.
In 2021, the gallery came under the ownership of Ray and Anne Barron, along with Brad and Joanne Purcell. Jo, the Gallery Manager, has a background in Fine Arts from Ilam Art School at the University of Canterbury and more than two decades of experience as a graphic designer in London, Australia and New Zealand. Now based in New Plymouth, she brings her passion for art and design to creating welcoming spaces that encourage people to discover and enjoy New Zealand creativity.

Seasonal Collections
At The White Sail Gallery, we refresh our exhibition space with a complete gallery rehang at the beginning of each season, introducing a new curated collection and a fresh perspective throughout the gallery. Each seasonal collection explores a different theme, bringing together a mix of established White Sail Gallery artists and invited guest artists, each offering their own unique interpretation while staying true to their individual style and creative practice.

Our upcoming Spring/Summer collection, The Shape of Summer, celebrates the feeling of the season through contemporary New Zealand art. Exploring themes of light, colour, landscape, nature and connection to place, the collection brings together artworks that capture the warmth, optimism and beauty of summer through the unique lens of each artist.
Featuring a selection of new works from White Sail Gallery artists alongside invited guest artists, The Shape of Summer will launch in early September. We look forward to sharing this fresh collection with you.

We exhibit a wide range of mediums — including painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, photography, and mixed media — and we’re always looking for thoughtful, well-resolved work that connects with our gallery’s audience.

Name, phone number, email, and a link to your website or Instagram, if you have one.- Where your work has been shown
Please include a list of any galleries, exhibitions, or institutions where your work has previously been exhibited or represented. This helps us better understand your practice and professional experience within the wider art community.
What to Expect
We do our best to review all submissions thoughtfully. If your work feels like a good fit for our gallery, we’ll be in touch to talk more. Please note that due to the number of enquiries we receive, we may not be able to reply to everyone — but we truly appreciate you reaching out.
We ask that artists don’t drop by the gallery with work unless we’ve set up a meeting — it helps us give each submission proper time and care.
A Note on AI
If your work involves AI tools in any way, that’s totally fine — just let us know how you’re using them. We’re curious and open-minded, but we do value transparency and originality in the creative process.

If you haven’t already, take a look around the gallery (in person or online) to get a feel for the kind of work we show. It’s a great way to see if your practice is a natural fit.
