ABOUT

Welcome to White Sail Gallery, a boutique art space nestled on the scenic shores of Breakwater Bay in New Plymouth.

Here, you’ll find a thoughtfully curated collection of artworks by talented artists from Aotearoa — from handcrafted sculptures and ceramics to distinctive objects and artworks.

Since opening in 2013, White Sail Gallery has been dedicated to showcasing a diverse range of New Zealand-made art. Set in one of New Plymouth’s most picturesque spots, the gallery overlooks the beautiful Breakwater Bay and features a wide variety of creative work. We’re proud to support local artistry across many mediums, including painting, jewellery, ceramics, glassware, homewares, and sculpture.

In 2021, the gallery came under the ownership of Ray and Anne Barron, along with Brad and Joanne Purcell. Jo, the Gallery Manager, brings a background in Fine Arts from Ilam Art School at the University of Canterbury and two decades of experience as a graphic designer in London and Australia. Now settled in New Plymouth with her young family, she brings her passion and expertise to help shape a welcoming space for both local visitors and those discovering us online.

Whether you’re a long-time art lover or just starting to explore, White Sail Gallery offers a relaxed and inspiring place to connect with New Zealand art, right by the sea.

Interested in Showing Your Work With Us?

Artist Submissions

We love hearing from artists and are always open to discovering new work. If you’re a New Zealand-based artist working in contemporary visual arts, we’d be happy to consider your submission.

We exhibit a wide range of mediums — including painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, photography, and mixed media — and we’re always looking for thoughtful, well-resolved work that connects with our gallery’s audience.

How to Submit:
  • Please email your submission to hello@thewhitesailgallery.co.nz

Include the following in your email:

    • Images of your work
Around 5–10 good-quality images of recent work, with each image clearly labelled (title, medium, size, and year).

    • A short artist statement
Tell us a little about your creative process and what drives your work.

    • A brief bio
Include your background, any exhibitions, awards, or relevant experience.

    • Your contact details
Name, phone number, email, and a link to your website or Instagram, if you have one.

What to Expect

We do our best to review all submissions thoughtfully. If your work feels like a good fit for our gallery, we’ll be in touch to talk more. Please note that due to the number of enquiries we receive, we may not be able to reply to everyone — but we truly appreciate you reaching out.

We ask that artists don’t drop by the gallery with work unless we’ve set up a meeting — it helps us give each submission proper time and care.

A Note on AI

If your work involves AI tools in any way, that’s totally fine — just let us know how you’re using them. We’re curious and open-minded, but we do value transparency and originality in the creative process.

Before You Submit

If you haven’t already, take a look around the gallery (in person or online) to get a feel for the kind of work we show. It’s a great way to see if your practice is a natural fit.

Thanks again for your interest — we’re always excited to see what artists are creating and look forward to hearing from you.
