Vicki Schrader

I found a passion for painting local landscapes, particularly the mountain, sea and sky, in my early teens and have been painting ever since. My coastal upbringing sees a strong connection to the Stony River, Mount Taranaki, and the Taranaki coastline, which are all common themes throughout my work. While most of my pieces are predominantly local landscapes, using acrylic on canvas from photos or memory, I also dabble in a bit of abstract work using a range of mediums to create my pieces. Whether it’s landscapes, acrylic pours, oil or resin art I enjoy experimenting and mixing things up-incorporating various colours and textures to bring the pieces depth and mood.

My art has evolved over the past 16 years as I have learnt new tricks and skills but the focus has always remained around the sky and the water. Bright blue skies, white wash and local iconic silhouettes. For me there’s nothing more rewarding than completing a piece, stepping back from it and realising I love it. Even better when others love it too.
