Graham Kirk

Graham Kirk, born in Hawera, has gained national and international acclaim for his “Superheroes in New Zealand” series. His finely painted landscapes feature characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Batman from DC Comics. After his 1988 exhibition at New Plymouth’s Govett Brewster Gallery, Kirk began painting larger works in acrylic, inspired by his hometown. This series started with “Superman & the Hawera Water Tower” and “Batman & the Catholic Church.” Kirk, a talented photographer, uses his photos as references and creates a unique stipple effect with cottonwool buds. He has exhibited widely across New Zealand.
