Simon Burton

Based in Ngāmotu (New Plymouth), Simon Burton is a former builder whose lifelong passion for timber has evolved into a dedication to carving. Drawn to the natural beauty and history of native and exotic woods, he creates striking wall-hung sculptures in the form of toki, roimata, and hei matau, often featuring intricate detailing that highlights the grain and story of each piece. In addition to his large-scale wooden works, Simon also carves elegant pounamu pendants, honouring the traditional forms and spiritual significance of these taonga. His work reflects a deep respect for the materials of Aotearoa and the cultural narratives they carry.
