This image of a Bluefin, was created on a 75cm long canvas of cedar wood and recycled sheet metal, with each piece being hand cut and seamlessly fitted. It was painted using acrylic colour and finally with a clear gloss protective coating making the colours ‘pop’ and creating an amazing look.

Artist statement

Ian McTavish’s Ocean Series showcases his passion for New Zealand’s marine life, drawing inspiration from the colours and inhabitants of the ocean. His unique artistic perspective captures the essence of his subjects, although not always reflecting their true colours. His artwork is a testament to the soulful perception of a passionate artist.
