Artist statement
Maria Brockhill (Te Atiawa nui tonu, Ngati Ruanui, Ngati Maniapoto) is a Taranaki-based ceramic artist who combines hand-building and wheel-throwing, drawing inspiration from her ancestral mountain Taranaki and the rugged north Taranaki coastline. She develops rich, jewel-toned glazes that pool and blend during high-temperature firings, creating luminous, unpredictable surfaces. Her work weaves together found natural textures and contemporary Māori design, exhibited both nationally and internationally.
